Surely the word grammar is nothing new for you, is it? Yes, because she is your partner in different circumstances: in Portuguese language classes, at times in which doubts arise when solving that difficult task, at the time of writing, finally, there are several they.
We study so many subjects that refer to the language we speak, but we never learn which part of the grammar they belong to, that is, which part is responsible for the study of this or that subject. However, we know that grammar breaks down into specific parts. So let's meet them?
The grammar is divided into specific parts, responsible for the study of different subjects
PHONOLOGY - you know that part where we study the rules of “x”, “ch”, “s”, “z” and so many other letters, vowel encounters, digraphs, syllables, syllabic division, accentuation rules? Well, all these subjects belong to a part of grammar called phonology, whose origin comes from the Greek phono = sound, voice and the Greek logia = study, knowledge.
MORPHOLOGY – Remember how words are formed? Yes, from the derivation, composition, of all those words that belong to the grammatical classes? Noun, adjective, adverb??? Know that all these subjects belong to the part of grammar called morphology, responsible for the study of all of them.
SYNTAX – Sentence, clause, period, subject, predicate, direct object, indirect object, that is, the complements that refer to the verbs, apost, vocative... They are all elements that we are already aware of, and by the way they belong to the part of grammar called the syntax, that is, it deals with the study of the relationship that words establish with each other when they are arranged in a prayer.
These three are basically responsible for studying everything we are learning. So, every time we know something “new” we are already able to know which part of the grammar it belongs to, right?
