What is yogurt made of? How is yogurt made?

O yogurt it is a food widely consumed by young people and adults, whether pure or with sugar, honey or fruits. Despite this, many people do not know how this product is made and just imagine that there is milk, sugar and some fruits. What many don't know is that, in addition to these products, there are bacteria!

At bacteria they are very simple organisms that are found almost everywhere on the planet. Known mainly by cause disease, such as pneumonia, tetanus and tuberculosis, these living beings do not only cause harm to man.

Bacteria are also important for food manufacturing, such as yoghurts, cheeses, curds and vinegars; at insulin production, which is used in the treatment of diabetes, and even in aesthetic treatments, like Botox. In addition, they have ecological importance, as they act in nitrogen fixation and decomposition of dead organisms.

With regard to the yogurt, they are used to transform the sugar found in milk (lactose) into lactic acid, which is responsible for curdling the milk. This process is known as fermentation.

Basically, two bacteria are used in the yogurt manufacturing process, the Lactobacillus bulgaricuif you are Streptococcus thermophilus. The first is more related to the creaminess and smell of yogurt, while the Streptococcus thermophilus it's more related to fermentation.


For the manufacture of yogurt, two bacteria are used: Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus

Yogurt, in addition to being tasty, has several others qualities. The lactobacilli used in its production are important, for example, against bowel diseases. In addition, some studies prove that yogurt decreases bad breath and is a good source of calcium, thus helping to combat osteoporosis and hypertension (high blood pressure). Not to mention that yogurt is a great source of vitamins.
