Differences between toad, tree frog and frog. toad, tree frog and frog

Amphibians are animals that live part of their life in an aquatic environment (larval stage) and part of a terrestrial environment (adult). In Brazil, there are about 800 species, and the most diversified group is the anuran.

Anurans comprise tailless animals. This group includes toads, tree frogs and frogs. These beings are often a source of fear and disgust for most people, however there is no reason to panic. Let's get to know some characteristics of these little animals?

Toads have rougher skin than frogs and tree frogs

Frogs are generally in the family Bufonidae. They have dry and rough skin, being able to make small jumps. Adults are often found in environments with little water, however they return to lakes and ponds during the breeding season. They are medium sized and not used for human consumption.

Frogs have a venom gland located near the eye region. It is worth noting that there is no reason to panic, as, contrary to what many people think, they do not release poison. The toxic substance is only released when the gland is pressed, such as when an animal is bitten by another. Among the species of Brazilian toad, we can highlight the cane toad (

Owl marinus).

Frogs have smooth, moist skin unlike toads.

There are frog species in numerous families, but we can highlight the Ranidae and Leptodactylidae family. These animals are medium to large in size, capable of taking long jumps that can reach more than 1 meter in length. Unlike frogs, they like to live near lakes and ponds. The skin is thinner and moister than that of frogs and their hind legs are long. Frogs are often used in cooking.

Tree frogs have small suction cups that allow them to be attached to trees.

Finally, we have tree frogs, which, like frogs, have representatives in several families, one of them being the Hylidae family. When compared to toads and frogs, it is very small in size. Its skin is smooth and moist like a frog's, and can be distinguished by its fingers. Frogs' toes have suction cups that allow them to literally climb the walls. These suckers are important, since they have arboreal habits.

Now you know the difference between these three types of amphibians! When you hear someone saying that the frog is the female toad, explain the difference‼!
