Ground pollution. Causes and consequences of soil pollution

The soil is the superficial layer of the earth's crust, being of fundamental importance for the life of several species. However, human activities have caused the ground pollution, an extremely harmful fact for all of us.

The overproduction of garbage is one of the main causes of soil pollution. During the decomposition process of food waste, gases and slurry are produced, which is an extremely polluting liquid with a strong odor. The slurry infiltrates the soil, causing its contamination, in addition to reaching the groundwater (groundwater).

The use of pesticides, pesticides and chemical fertilizers in agricultural activities also contaminates the soil. These chemicals are harmful to the microbiological life forms present in the soil, drastically altering its composition.

Contaminated soil ends up affecting plantations and pasture areas. Thus, plants absorb these substances, which are ingested by humans and other animals.

Soil changes caused by mining

Just like the agriculture, mining also contributes to soil pollution.

This activity, through excavations and openings of huge craters, significantly alters the natural structure of the soil, and the use of chemical substances aggravates this environmental disaster.

Among the possible measures to combat soil pollution are: reducing waste production, destination and treatment adequate garbage disposal, recycling, environmental sanitation, agricultural methods that can replace pesticides, among others.

It is important to emphasize that the responsibility for preserving the soil belongs to all of us. So do your part.
