One supernova it is a celestial body which originated after the explosion of a star whose mass is approximately 10 times the mass of the Sun.
In the formation of a supernova, all the hydrogen is consumed and a given star undergoes a sudden increase. of brightness, with variations that can reach 19 magnitudes (about 100 times brighter than a nova ordinary). The glow caused by a supernova explosion can take weeks or even months to fade. Supernovas represent the beginning of the final phase in the evolution of massive stars.
The explosion results from uncontrolled thermonuclear reactions that take place inside these stars, as a result of which matter is thrown into space at high speeds. In this explosion, up to 90% of the star can be launched into space. The remaining mass appears in the form of an expanding gas cloud (the remnant of the supernova) and possibly a compact stellar object, which may be a neutron star (which can reach 15 km in diameter and has a high density) or a black hole (if it is approximately 30 times larger than the Sun).
The most recently observed supernovae in our galaxy are that of 1604 (Kepler's star), and that of 1572 (observed by T. Brahe) and that of 1054, recorded by Chinese astronomers and which gave rise to the Crab nebula. These are rare phenomena and as they happened at a time when technology was not as developed as it is today (in 1054, 1572 and 1604), it was not possible to study these supernovae.
