Meaning of Quotient (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Quotient (or quotient) is a word that derives from the Latin term "fees", whose meaning is "how many times". The word is used to designate the result of an arithmetic division. In the case of an integer division, the quotient is the value obtained from the dividend, subtracted from the remainder, dividing by the divisor.

Quotient (or ratio) is also the term used to designate a fraction of two whole numbers.

The Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is the value obtained by testing the mental capacity of an individual, comparing him to his age group. More specifically, IQ is obtained by dividing a subject's mental age by their chronological age and multiplying that value by 100.

Individuals with IQs between 90 and 109 are considered normal, whereas individuals with IQs above 140 are considered geniuses.

The concept of multiple intelligences, developed from the 1980s onwards by the American psychologist Howard Gardner, introduced the perception that an individual possessed other important capabilities in addition to those revealed in tests of IQ

With the carrying out of many researches in this field, the concept of Emotional Quotient (EQ) emerged, which is related to an individual's emotions and the ability to deal with the emotions of others.

In the 21st century, a more important measure of intelligence than IQ and EQ appears: the Spiritual Quotient (QS), which covers the spiritual sphere of the human being, the way of dealing with issues of existence, meaning and value.
