THE Chipped Stone Age, also known as Paleolithic, is the name given to first phase of the stone age, this period ranging from 2 million to 10 thousand years a. C (Early Neolithic).

This stage of Prehistory, considered the longest, is characterized by the manufacture of tools, such as axes, spears, staffs, knives and other objects made basically of stone, as well as bones and woods.

In fact, the beginning of Pedra Lascada still marks the emergence of the first hominids on Earth, which would later begin to give rise to humanity as it is known today.

Life in this period was based on hunting animals (mainly carcasses), fishing and gathering food such as fruits, leaves and roots.

The hominids of this time were nomadic, that is, they moved constantly from one place to another in search of water and food, and they took shelter in caves and gaps between rocks.

In the Paleolithic phase, the economy was subsistence, that is, they collected only for the survival of the group. All goods produced, such as tools and utensils, were collectively owned.

The men used to organize themselves into teams and had the task of fishing and collecting the carcasses of dead animals. During much of the Paleolithic period, hominids were not hunters, restricting themselves to collecting the meat of some prey previously killed by other animals. Only with the emergence of homo erectus is that men began to build weapons designed exclusively for hunting medium and small animals.

Women, on the other hand, had to take care of their children, so they didn't go for long walks like men. In addition to ensuring the feeding of their offspring, the females were also responsible for collecting fruits, roots, leaves, eggs and insect larvae, which were also part of the diet of the hominids of this time course.

One of the great discoveries of the period was the production of fire, which was made through two processes: by rubbing two stones under a bundle of dry straw, and the spark obtained ignited the straw; or with the use of a stick that was rotated under a hole in a dry wood and, through heating, it generated heat that was transferred to the straw, causing the fire.
