Meaning of Quartz (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Quartz is considered the most abundant mineral on Earth. Its best known form are quartz crystals, like pieces of broken glass.

Quartz formations are part of a geological process that can take thousands of years. Quartz stones are mainly composed of Silicon Dioxide (SiO2), being present in all types of rock formations on the planet, whether igneous, metamorphic or sedimentary.

Quartz is considered one of the most resistant common minerals, with a high degree of hardness, second only to rare minerals such as diamond and topaz.

Another typical feature of quartz crystals is their color diversity, that is, they are allochromatic.

The word quartz derives from a German term of unknown origin, but which would have been applied for the first time by Georgius Agricola, considered the “father of geology”.

Currently, quartz stones are commonly used in the making of decorative objects, such as jewelry, ornaments, etc.

Popularly, some people believe that quartz crystals have spiritual, purifying or even healing properties.

According to popular culture, the different colors of quartz have distinct and specific meanings for every human need.

green quartz

It is interpreted as the stone that symbolizes courage, nature, optimism and balance. Supposedly, its powers are believed to help cure insomnia, stress and other evils.

Symbolizes love and the heart, helping to cure some heart problems, according to popular superstition.

blue quartz

Blue quartz symbolizes the state of relaxation and peace of mind. Its main advantage would be to help with memory loss problems.

purple quartz

This crystal – also known as an amethyst – symbolizes meditation, harmony and tranquility.

yellow quartz

Yellow quartz, also known as citrine, represents security. Supposedly, this stone can help people against nightmares, phobias and depression.

white quartz

It is popularly known for helping to increase concentration, as well as being considered one of the crystals with the greatest spiritual value.
