Meaning of Authenticity (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Authenticity consists of absolute certainty of the veracity or originality of something, which is obtained through analyzes carried out on the object in question.

When something has authenticity, it means that it is authentic, that is, it has not undergone mutation or improper reproduction processes. Authenticity is the nature of what is real and genuine.

Example: "Before selling works of art we need to ensure their authenticity".

In this case, authenticity is required by a security issue, to ensure that information, for example, is transmitted to persons or entities that should not have access to this data. On the other hand, it also helps to reduce the application of fraud and scams against third parties.

As a rule, the document authenticity is used to ensure these are legitimate. Most authentications in documents and other papers (contracts, for example) are done at notary offices or consulates.

Authenticity can still refer to someone's behavior or attitude. In this case, this word represents behavior seen as exemplary, where the person demonstrates to be true, sincere, relevant and honest with others. When an individual is described as "authentic," it usually means that he or she is trustworthy and of good character.
