Closed caption (also known by the acronym CC) is an English expression that means closed caption, a subtitle transmission system from films, television programs or online videos.
On television, subtitles are hidden in the television signal that is received at home, and can be activated through a button on the remote control. For this reason it is called a closed caption. The system of closed captions it is often used in noisy contexts (such as airports) so that people can access textual information. Also, some people use the closed captioning to learn or practice a foreign language.

Unlike the closed captioning, the expression open caption refers to subtitles that do not have to be selected and are visible to all viewers.
In Brazil, the Ministry of Communications decided that as of 2012 broadcasters must contain 12 hours of accessibility programming such as closed captioning. The forecast is that in 2017, all programming will have to provide accessibility parameters.
