WWF stands for World Wide Fund for Nature, which means World Wide Fund for Wildlife and Nature, is a international non-governmental organization (NGO) with the aim of conserving, investigating and restoring the environment environment. In the United States and Canada it is still called by its old name, World Wildlife Fund.
WWF was founded in 1961 in Switzerland by a group of scientists concerned about the devastation of nature. The name was changed in 1986, as the NGO expanded and increased its area of operation, as it takes care of the preservation of the environment as a whole, and not just the animals, but the acronym was kept the same.
Headquartered in Switzerland, WWF has become a world reference in the preservation and defense of the environment, but has representations in the main countries of the world. The NGO is supported by people from different backgrounds, and is the largest independent organization of its kind in the world, with more than 5 million members working in more than 90 countries with more than 1300 conservation projects environmental.
The WWF itself edits and publishes books, magazines and booklets that teach the preservation of the environment, in addition to combat the destruction of forests, the hunting of endangered animals, pollution and the waste of resources natural.
