synovitis is an inflammation of the synovial membrane of a joint, while tenosynovitis it is an inflammatory or infectious process in the sheath that overlies the tendon (tendon sheath).
THE synovial membrane A joint is a thin layer of connective tissue that produces synovial fluid, which has a lubricating and nourishing action on the joint.
Synovitis is caused by a tissue irritation synovial, which leads to an excessive production of synovial fluid. It may be associated with an infectious process in the region, being called pyoarthritis, a specific or non-specific infection of a joint, with pus inside.
Knee synovitis is very common, but it can also affect small joints of the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, ankle and foot.
THE tenosynovitis or tendonitis it is characterized by an inflammation of the tendon sheath, a thin layer of connective tissue that surrounds and lubricates the tendon. It can be caused by repetitive strain, illness or local trauma.
The most common tenosynovitis is De Quervain's Disease
