Outlet Meaning (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Outlet is the name for a retail sales market, in which producers and industries sell their products directly to the public, and generally at a lower price than what is offered in the Shops.. The stores are open like a mall, but they are usually located at the exits of big cities or metropolitan regions, hence the name outlet, which in English means exit, passage, drain and Marketplace.

Because it promotes retail sales, there is a reduction in advertising and maintenance costs, which makes it possible to sell famous commercial brands, luxury brands, at prices more affordable than they usually are found.

Outlets are best known in Europe and the United States, but have gradually begun to expand in Brazil. The biggest outlet in Europe, located in Portugal, near Lisbon, and called Freeport Outlet Alcochete, has more than 150 shops, cinemas, restaurants and bars.

In Brazil, one of the first outlets was opened in São Paulo in 2009, under the name Outlet Premium São Paulo brings together around 60 stores and brands such as Diesel, Armani, Lacoste, Calvin Klein, Nike, Rip Curl and others.

Big brands such as Reebok, Nike, Puma and Adidas have their own outlets around the world, without having to be located in a mall. These sporting goods in outlets are generally priced much lower than in mall stores.
