Poetry it is a literary genre characterized by harmoniously structured verse composition. Is manifestation of beauty and aesthetics portrayed by the poet in the form of words.
In the figurative sense, poetry is everything that moves, that sensitizes and awakens feelings. It is any form of art that inspires and enchants, that is sublime and beautiful.
There are certain formal elements that characterize a poetic text - such as rhythm, verses and stanzas - and that define the meter of a poem.
The meter of a poem is the use of specific literary resources that distinguish a poet's style.
Free verses do not follow any metrics. The author is free to set his own pace and create his own standards. This type of poetry is also called modern poetry, in which elements of modernism stand out.
Prose poetry also gives the author autonomy to compose a poetic text not made up of verses (provided there is harmony, rhythm and the emotional component inspired by poetry).
Over the centuries, poetry has been used as a way to express the most varied feelings, such as love, friendship, sadness, longing, etc. Some of the most famous poets in the Portuguese language are: Fernando Pessoa, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Luís de Camões, Vinicius de Moraes, etc.
