Meaning of Urgency and Emergency (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Urgency and emergency are two terms used mainly in the field of Medicine, and their respective meanings are often confused.

The emergency happens when there is a situation that cannot be postponed, which must be resolved quickly, because if there is a delay, there is even a risk of death. Urgency, on the other hand, is when there is a critical situation, with the occurrence of great danger and that it can become an emergency if not properly attended to.

The main difference between the two words focuses more on the field of medicine, for example: hemorrhages, respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest are emergencies. On the other hand, dislocations, sprains, severe fractures and dengue, for example, are considered urgent situations.

Another point is that in emergencies the appearance is sudden and unforeseen and it requires an immediate solution, but not an urgency, despite the need for short-term care. So there is only haste or insistence on a solution, but both, if not properly attended to, can become very dangerous.

Emergency

In the field of Medicine, emergency is the circumstance that requires surgery or medical intervention. immediately, therefore, in ambulances it is usually written emergency and not urgency. These situations have a more immediate and emergency character, as there may be a risk of death.

Thus, the emergency situation, to avoid death or serious damage, requires immediate assistance.

Urgency

In the emergency initially there is no serious risk. However, it is a situation that also deserves attention and care with a certain agility. If an emergency situation is not properly treated, it is possible that it may turn into an emergency situation, increasing the risks.

Therefore, the urgent situation must be attended to soon, in a short period of time.

Other types of emergency and urgency

Although these terms are more commonly used in the field of Medicine, emergency and urgency can also occur in other situations.

Examples are: in the occurrence of environmental disasters that can reach large proportions, in situations such as fires or other accidents in general.

Within the scope of Law, there are also situations that may require urgent or emergency care, such as care for victims of violence or witnesses who are threatened.
