Hibernate is an intransitive verb in Portuguese and means a idle state or condition, vacancy or when body metabolic activity decreases drastically, causing the body to go into a state of numbness.
The act of hibernating is related to the state of hibernation, which normally happens to some animals during winter. The metabolism of hibernating animals drops sharply during the coldest season of the year, causing them to enter a state of "induced coma".
Hibernating, for many animals that inhabit cold areas of the planet, is a way of survival, since during the winter it is difficult or even impossible to get food. With hibernation and an extremely low metabolic level, animals do not feel the need to expend a lot of energy throughout the day, surviving even with little or no food.

Sleep mode on PC
On computers, the sleep mode is a function that "turns off" the equipment, saving all the pages, programs or files that were being used. When the PC is "turned on", that is, when it comes out of "sleep mode", all pages and programs are activated again, exactly as they were before "hibernation".
The function is called "sleep mode" because of the similarity with the action of "deactivating" or "going to idle", an act that the animals practice during the winter as a survival mode.
Example: "Bears hibernate in winter" / "Computers hibernate when not in use".
