Civilization is the state of social culture, characterized by a relative progress in the domain of science, religion, politics, the arts, the means of expression, economic and scientific techniques, and a degree of refinement of mores.

Civilizations were formed over different periods and are studied through the analysis and interpretations of historians who use traces left by man, among them, archaeological remains, monuments, traditions and written documents that are fundamental to the knowledge of the history of a civilization.

According to the Dutch historian Johan Huizinga (1872-1945) it is only possible to glimpse the existence of a civilization when three primordial requirements are met:

1 – a certain degree of mastery of physical nature through good scientific and industrial techniques.

2 - an indispensable balance between this technical progress and this mastery of man over nature physical, and a corresponding moral progress and man's mastery of his own nature spiritual.

3 – the existence of a common ideal, as a characteristic of the spiritual appearance of an age or a people.
