Meaning of Resilience (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Resilience is the ability to return to normal state. In the field of psychology, resilience means resistance to shock, to adversity. It is a term used in several areas of knowledge, such as administration, ecology, physics and psychology.

The word resilience has long been used to describe human behavior. In the field of psychology, it is said that a person is resilient when he is able to return to his usual state of health (physical and mental) after going through a difficult experience. So we can define resilience as the ability to face and overcome adversity.

To define resilient behavior, two factors need to be taken into account: crisis and resilience. Faced with a critical or adverse situation, people can manifest different types of behavior. A resilient person is someone who understands the problem that is before them and mobilizes resources to overcome it.

This does not mean that the resilient individual is invulnerable or shielded. It is not about always getting out of a critical situation unscathed, but about developing the capacity to deal with the crisis efficiently, in order to emerge from it strengthened.
