Meaning of Apex (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Apex is a masculine noun in Portuguese that refers to highest point of a place, that is, the summit or vertex of a region. In a figurative sense, the apex can still signify the highest and most significant degree of a given situation.

The word apex, still in its figurative sense, can represent the perfection or the excessive rigor of a task or job. Example: "After years, the boy reaches the pinnacle of his artwork with this new exhibition".

Another widely attributed use of the term "summit" concerns the level of an emotion, that is, when it is at the most expressive and strongest degree of a feeling. Example: "The woman felt the height of happiness when her child was born".

A pinnacle can also mean a brief moment of time, getting the same meaning as "for a while" or "just for a bit." Example: "For a moment the boy was not run over".

Etymologically, the word "apex" came from the Latin apex in union with the suffix icis, which forms a relative meaning of "ponta", "cimo" or "auge", in the Portuguese translation.

In literature, for example, the apex is considered the climax and tension moment of a story, when the most important events are presented to the audience.

Apex (without an acute accent in the letter "a") is an Italian commune in the region of Campania, in the province of Benevento.
