Meaning of Panelaço (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Protest is the term adopted to represent a popular manifestation where if shake pans and other metal utensils in the form of protest. A pot can also refer to the augmentative word "pot", meaning a giant pot.

The pot as a social phenomenon had its origin in Chile in 1971, to protest against the government of Salvador Allende. Later, in 2001, there were pots and pans in Argentina, with the objective of asking for the impeachment of President Fernando de La Rua.

Usually, the pots they are expressions of criticism of the government of a nation or locality, whether for negative aspects of the economy, politics or security, for example. The population, feeling dissatisfied and wronged, demands changes for the social group in which it is inserted.

The pots are previously organized demonstrations, where the demonstrators set a place and time when they must gather and start "making noise". Social networks, on the internet, are the main means of communication for people to articulate in this type of protest.

In Brazil, the pots and "honks" (popular demonstration with the use of horns) have become quite common as a model of protest against the political situation in the country. the request for impeachment against the president of Brazil Dilma Rousseff was one of the main reasons for a series of pots that took place in the country between 2014 and 2015.
