Foundation stone
A cornerstone is the first block of stone or masonry, symbolically placed on the site of a future building, during a building launching ceremony.
In ancient constructions, the cornerstone was the foundation stone, the first to be laid in the corner of the building, forming a right angle between two walls. It served to define the placement of the other stones and align the entire construction.
