Near East or Near East is the name of a geographic region that covers different countries in Southeast Asia.
The term was originally applied to the Balkan states in Eastern Europe, but today it describes also the countries of Southwest Asia between the Mediterranean Sea and Iran, especially in contexts historical records. The term Near East came into use in the 1890s.

The term is used by archaeologists, geographers and historians, and refers to the region that encompasses Anatolia, which is the Asian portion of Turkey, the Uprising comprising Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Cyprus, Israel and territories Palestinians; Mesopotamia, which is Iraq, and Transcaucasia, which encompasses Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In political and journalistic contexts, this region is usually considered to be understood in the Orient. Middle, while the terms Near East are preferable in archaeological, geographic and historical records.
