Vai de encounter is an idiomatic expression in the Portuguese language and refers to the fact that two or more things (objects, ideas, situations, etc.) confronting each other.
Many people confuse the expression "goes to" with "go to the date". Although they are very similar, both are used in different contexts.
When you “go against” something, the idea is of collision, of disagreement, of divergence.
Examples:"The car ran into the pole" (the car hit the pole) / "Your opinion matches mine" (your opinion is opposite to mine) or "The athletes' request came up against what the coaching staff wanted" (the technical committee is against the athletes' request)
When “going to meet” something or someone, the idea is of meeting, agreement and understanding.
Examples:"Paulo went to meet his girlfriend" (Paulo went to meet his girlfriend) or "Your idea matches mine" (Your idea agrees with mine).
There is still the expression “to meet”, without the use of the verbs “to go” or “to come”, in this case it means “in search of” or “in the effort for something”, for example.
