Blessed is an adjective that means very happy. It is also a masculine noun, which name the one who has the glory of heaven.
The expression blessed (happy) is mentioned several times in the Holy Bible. Celestial happiness is based on faith and obedience to the word of God, which generates the happiness capable of resisting life's most difficult moments.
At beatitudes they are described in Matthew 5:3-11 and are part of the Sermon on the Mount, given by Jesus. In this passage from the Bible, Jesus shows how it is possible to be happy, revealing what the character of those who seek the Kingdom of Heaven should be.
- Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven;
- Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth;
- Blessed are they that weep, for they will be comforted;
- Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied;
- Blessed are those who show mercy, for they will obtain mercy;
- Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God;
- Blessed are the peaceable, for they shall be called children of God;
- Blessed are those who suffer persecution for the sake of justice, because theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
- Blessed are you when, for my sake, they insult you, persecute you, and raise every kind of calumny against you.
