Meaning of DC Comics (What they are, Concept and Definition)

DC Comics is one of the big companies americans of comics. The acronym DC means detective comics, the title of a Batman comic book, published in 1939. The superheroes created by DC Comics are part of the so-called "Universe DC", which consecrated Batman and Superman, the most famous characters created by DC Comics. Other representative characters of the publisher are Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, among others.

At its inception the company was called National Comics and later National Periodical Publications. However, it became known as DC and decided to officially adopt the name DC Comics. It is a subsidiary company of Warner Bros Entertainment, Inc. (from the Time Warner group) and has as its biggest rival Marvel Comics (which belongs to Walt Disney and creator of the characters Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Punisher, X-Men, Thor, among others).

The Dark Knight Returns (in Brazil, O Cavaleiro das Trevas), starring Batman, was a great success for DC published in 1986, which marked the beginning of the creation of more audience-oriented comics adult.

In Brazil, editions of DC Comics have been published since 2002 by Panini Comics in partnership with Mythos Editora.
