NIT is an acronym that means Worker Identification Number. It is a number assigned by social Security to every citizen who intends to register in the General Social Security System (RGPS) to contribute monthly and have access to social security benefits.
The NIT has 11 (eleven) numeric characters, in the following format: XXX.XXXXX.XX-X. It is equivalent to PIS/PASEP, but defines the insured's registration as an individual contributor (CI), optional, domestic servant, special insured or self-employed.
If the insured starts working with a formal contract, the contracting company must register the employee in the PIS (Social Integration Program) or in the PASEP (Program for the Formation of the Servant's Heritage Public).
Thus, contributions will be made to the INSS (National Social Security Institute) and also to the FGTS (Guarantee Fund for Length of Service).
