Identity Project for Early Childhood Education at School

Who am I? Where did I come from? What I like? The child's infinite curiosity applies to themselves and it is not uncommon for adults to ask these questions.

Identity is a construction, and the foundation, fundamental for supporting structures and pillars, built in childhood. Therefore, providing a good foundation for the pillars and structures is essential. Be aware of yourself, your importance, your tastes, feelings, origins, ties, culture, nationality, are vital things for the development of a citizen identity, well resolved and responsible.

Identity is a continuous process and the more self-knowledge we have, the better this process takes place. Being aware of us, our role, importance, origin, history is what allows us to be active in the environments in which we live. Without this, we feel unimportant and fail to realize our full potential, which ends up wasted. Therefore, it is necessary to approach this issue from an early age with children and with responsibility.

Goals:

  • Encourage self-knowledge;
  • Establish self-knowledge and identity construction as a constant and changing process;
  • Understand human growth (childhood, adolescence and adulthood) and body changes, the concept of age (youth and old age);
  • Develop full awareness of their histories, origins and culture;
  • Increase vocabulary and ways of understanding reality (optical);
  • Working with oral and written language;
  • Develop logical reasoning;
  • Instigate discipline (notion of order, respect, time to speak and listen, time, etc.);
  • Encourage mutual respect for each other, respecting group differences, phenotype, religion, ethnicity, tastes and opinions and gender (aimed at building a future critical citizen and humanized).

Development:

  • Probing students, seeking to verify what they know about themselves and how they see and understand themselves;
  • Presenting the theme, what identity is, who we are, what we have in common with each other and what is different about us;
  • Work through diverse activities: spontaneous writing, reading circle, music, movies, guided games;
  • Making a notebook where the child registers what he has learned in each class and answers something about himself;
  • What are its origins? Where are you from? Use didactic means that allow artistic or creative expression and directed games so that they learn about origin (history), family, parents. The making of a family tree serves this purpose perfectly;
  • Create a collective mural that exposes the different cultures and ethnicities identified in the initial survey, religious differences, ancestry, habits, sacred dates and festivals, etc.;
  • Gender: It is important to address, because in a country like Brazil that has a serious history of aggression against women and wage disparity, if it is necessary to raise awareness from childhood so that in the future these absurd practices become more and more unacceptable. Sensitize students to this important issue through guided games and conversations;
  • Building myself: In this game, students add “bricks” (made with recyclable material) with tastes and characteristics they have to build themselves. Symbolic way of demonstrating that self-knowledge is an ongoing process;
  • Activities on the theme of identity to be done in the classroom.
