Google distributes R$ 2 million in scholarships


Master's and doctoral students from all over Latin America, as well as their advisors and teachers, will have the opportunity to develop projects in the areas of Engineering and Science of the Computing.

O scholarship program is promoted by the Latin America Research Awards (Lara) and entries must be made until July 29th. The selected researchers will receive individual grants to develop their projects over the course of a year in the following areas:

  • Geo/Maps;
  • Interaction between humans and computers;
  • Retrieving, extracting and organizing information (including semantic graphs);
  • Internet of Things (including smart cities);
  • Machine learning (machine learning) and data mining (data mining);
  • Mobile devices;
  • Natural language processing;
  • Physical interfaces and immersive experiences;
  • Privacy;
  • Other topics related to web searches.

The program was created in 2013 and since then, it has financed more than 70 projects across Latin America. Its main sponsorships were in the areas of Digital Entrepreneurship and Public Health, with the search for innovative solutions in the respective areas.

In the last edition, two Brazilian projects were awarded. One from the Federal University of Rio Grande, which focused its research on developing low-cost autonomous stations to measure the impact of climate change on glaciers. The other, from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, which created a measure of confidence for news, with the aim of combating misinformation.
