Underwater swimming, pigeon shooting, power boating, balloon racing and swimming with obstacles were not considered official disciplines in the 1900 games. Due to the great negligence and lack of organization of the event, Baron Pierre de Coubertin abandoned the leadership of the Olympic Games.

According to the International Olympic Committee, there were 997 athletes representing 24 nations and competing in 20 sports.
