What was the Cold War?

THE Cold War occurred after the Second World War, between 1947 and 1991. It was the conflict that determined the polarization of the world into two large blocks: that of countries socialists, led by Soviet Union, and the countries capitalists, commanded by the U.S.

Known for being an ideological war, it was characterized by the search for political hegemony, economic, military and technological between the US and the USSR that did not face each other directly in a conflict armed.

However, it is important to emphasize that the conflict of interests caused by the Cold War triggered armed confrontations around the world, causing thousands of deaths and destruction in countries on the African and Asian continents, principally.

In addition, both nations supported military dictatorships, like those that occurred in the Latin America, including the Brazil.

Around the two superpowers, two blocks of international action were created that divided the world into socialist and capitalist.

This divergence fomented a major arms, territorial and ideological dispute that left the world vulnerable, close to total extermination.

Socialism was adopted by countries influenced by the Soviet Union, constantly threatening the development of capitalism.

From the dispute for world hegemony between the two power blocs, invasions, wars and tensions political and military were present around the world, spreading a climate of panic constant. Likewise, technological, scientific and military development arose from the competition between them.

Thus, the fear of a possible Socialist Revolution made Western countries grant labor rights, extending democracy to the social field.
