O Treaty of Versailles was an agreement signed in 1919 between the powers that participated in the First World War (1914–1918).

He singled out Germany as the main nation responsible for the war. With this, the German State was obliged to:

  • Return the rich mining regions of Alsace-Lorraine to France;
  • Deliver part of its merchant ships to the winning countries;
  • Pay a billion dollar war indemnity to your opponents;
  • Reduction of its military force to 100,000 men without access to heavy weapons;
  • Surrender your colonial territories to the victorious nations;
  • To hand over to the French the domain and the right to exploit the coal mines located in the Saar River basin.

Furthermore, the Germans were banned from having military aviation and submarines.

Feeling penalized and humiliated by the Treaty of Versailles, the Germans began to harbor feelings of hatred and desire for revenge.

It can be considered as the seed for the outbreak of another even more violent conflict, the Second World War (1939–1945).
