THE Republic in Brazil was established on November 15, 1889, having as first president, the marshal Deodoro da Fonseca, responsible for administering a provisional government (1889–1891), until a new constitution was ready.
THE proclamation of the Republic marked the beginning of the First Republic or old republic.
The second Constitution of Brazilian history, and the first of the republican period was promulgated on February 24, 1891, ratifying the republican regime, determining presidentialism and secularization of State.

The day after the enactment, Deodoro da Fonseca was elected president of Brazil by the National Congress.
