Great Britain

Well, to start with, it is necessary to start with the basic point: Great Britain is not a country. In fact, it is an island, located in Europe. The insula is home to three countries, they are England, Scotland, and Wales. In other words, its connection with England (and the reason they are always referred to as synonyms) is because the country belongs to the island.

In addition, at the Olympic Games, athletes from the island nations compete as only players from Great Britain, not from their home country. Therefore, they represent the entire island.
