Main works by Vinicius de Moraes


Renowned Brazilian poet, journalist, playwright, diplomat and singer Marcus Vinicius de Moraes was born in Rio de Janeiro, on October 19, 1913. His biggest hit was sung in the voice of Tom Jobim, the famous song girl from ipanema.

As one of the artists of modernism in Brazil, Vinicius de Moares established himself as a poet early on in his career. His main focus was erotic and love poetry, but throughout his career, he developed many other talents, such as song and the cinema.

At the beginning of his career, his works were focused on religiosity, with a strong biblical content. Over the years, he developed his romantic side, with erotic poetry.

After that, Vinicius de Moraes bet more on social issues, which addressed the romanticism in a melancholy and harrowing way, with long texts.

In the second phase of his career, the artist bet on a simpler and more objective language that the general public could understand. With more realistic aspects, Vinicius never failed to address the romantic content and feelings in the lyrical self.

Among several works, the artist has published the most beautiful sonnets in the Portuguese language, with hundreds of other internationally recognized works.

Other works by Vinicius de Moraes

Among the various works, Vinicius de Moraes has also published several works together, one of the most famous is his contribution with João Cabral de Melo Neto in the poem homeland, and with Manuel Bandeira, in the poetic anthology Night.

In addition to his works in literature, the artist has great influences on music, as one of the great precursors of bossa-nova. In the music business, Vinicius de Moraes partnered with big names, such as Tom Jobim and João Gilberto.

In 1970, Vinicius de Moraes participated in a show with the singer Toquinho, where he presented two new songs about his entire trajectory in artistic life. The show was a success and ran for a year, in addition to showing performances abroad.

On July 9, 1980, Vinicius de Moraes died of cerebral ischemia. However, his works remain eternal and acclaimed until today, by countless artists within the cultural scene.
