Singapore. Singapore Data

Becoming independent on August 9, 1965, Singapore is located on the largest island in a archipelago to the south of the Malaysian peninsula, considered to be a city-state little bigger than the Vatican and Monaco. The country occupies a territory between Malaysia and Indonesia, and the majority of the population is of Chinese origin.
Its geographical position is extremely privileged, between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, an important trade route. Characterized as one of the most populated countries in the world, with a population density of 7,664 inhabitants per kilometer square, Singapore provides a high standard of living for its inhabitants: its Human Development Index (HDI) is 0.846 (very high).
The national economy is based on banking and port services, tourism and high-tech industry. The country showed high industrialization and significant economic development in the late 1980s, being considered one of the “Asian tigers”. The established industrial model was known as IOE (Export-Oriented Industrialization), that is, production is mainly destined for foreign trade.

The political system is extremely closed, with severe censorship and the death penalty. According to Amnesty International, the country has one of the highest execution rates in the world.
