UN is the acronym for United Nations Organization, which is an international organization with the aim of facilitating cooperation in terms of law and international security, economic development, social progress, human rights and peace worldwide.
The UN was founded in 1945, right after World War II, with the aim of stopping wars between countries and to facilitate dialogue between them.
The UN is made up of 192 member states, including almost all sovereigns in the world, and is divided into several administrative bodies:
- General meeting;
- Security Council, which has the objective of deciding peace and security resolutions;
- Economic and Social Council, which helps to promote economic, social and global development cooperation;
- Secretariat, which provides studies and information;
- International Court of Justice, which is the main judicial body.
In addition to the administrative bodies, the UN is also formed by a large system, called the United Nations System, formed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Program (WFP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
UNICEF is a United Nations agency that aims to promote the defense of children's rights, help meet their basic needs and contribute to their development.
The UN is funded by contributions from all its member states, and has six official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
