Text genres, unlike text types, cannot be numbered. They are intrinsically associated with the acts of speaking and writing, and as communicational situations are varied, genders are also varied. Although we cannot define an exact number of textual genres, it is possible to recognize them, as each one of them presents stable types of utterances, structures and thematic contents that enable their identification.
It is interesting to note that, within the same text, different textual genres: this coexistence we name intergenderness or intergender intertextuality. Intergenericity happens when a given gender borrows characteristics that are not, by convention, its own. This mixture or hybridization happens due to the communicational purpose, either with the objective of improving communication with the interlocutor or reader, or with artistic and literary purposes. Let's look at some examples of intergendering?
The advertisement above borrows some elements from concrete poetry to fulfill its communicational purpose.
►The advertisement is the predominant textual genre in the image above. We say that it is predominant (and therefore not the only one) because there are elements typical of the poem genre — more specifically, elements of concrete poetry. The language used is different from the language standards that are commonly used in advertising, in which the objectivity of messages with clearly persuasive content predominates. As it is an advertisement par excellence, it does not abandon the intention to convince or persuade the reader, but seeks in literary language subsidies to make the message more interesting.

►Do you know what poetic prose is? This is another example of intergenderness. The poet Mario Quintana knew like few others to take advantage of this poetic possibility, replacing verses with long lines, characteristic of prose. In the book flowery shoe, first published in 1948, Quintana presents a new poetry, subverting the literary canons by making poems without verses and without rhymes, thus showing that the barriers between the poetry and prose genres are not insurmountable.

► The song The letter, famous in the voices of singers Renato Russo and Erasmo Carlos, is not just a letter. The first purpose of its composers, Benil Santos and Raul Sampaio, was certainly musical, but, in a perceptive way, they combined elements of the textual genre letter to the textual genre music, thus offering us a beautiful example of intergenericity.
Intergenericity proves that the barriers between textual genres are tenuous. For this reason, we cannot claim that there is a pure genus. Understanding this text hybridization process is important, especially in the case of written texts, as this will allow the reader to properly interpret all of their information.
