spring equinox is the astronomical phenomenon that marks the official start of this season. In Brazil and throughout the Southern Hemisphere, this event takes place in the month of September.
As its name suggests, the spring equinox represents the end of winter (previous season) and the beginning of spring. During the phenomenon, the sun shines with greater intensity on the Earth's equatorial region, causing the day and night have exactly the same duration (12 hours each).
The equinoxes mark the beginning of spring and autumn, depending on the hemisphere and the time of year they are observed.

In Brazil, which is located in the Southern Hemisphere, the spring equinox usually occurs between the 21st and 23rd of September (varying annually).
In the Northern Hemisphere, the spring equinox usually takes place on March 20th or 21st.

Solstice
Solstices are also astronomical phenomena, but these events mark the beginning of summer or winter, depending on the Earth's hemisphere. These events also occur twice a year, just like the equinoxes.
In the Southern Hemisphere, the summer solstice is in December and the winter solstice is in June.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the opposite occurs: in June, the summer solstice occurs and in December, the winter solstice occurs.
