In Brazil, most of the existing oil platforms are in deep water. When an oil accident occurs or oil escapes from an oil tanker or even a pipeline, cleanup crews need to act quickly to try to lessen the impact of the accident.
The specialized technicians, "the cleaning team", manage to reduce the impact caused by the accident, surrounding the oil stain to prevent it from spreading and continuing to contaminate rivers or even the sea.
After this process, they begin the recovery of the area, separating the oil from the sand and water, so after these processes, the oil can be reused.
The oil extraction process is considered a high environmental risk activity, even with all the care taken by the extraction teams.
One of the most serious accidents in Brazil (specifically in Guanabara Bay) was in January 2000, when a pipeline collapsed. burst and threw over a million liters of oil into the sea, affecting several kilometers of mangroves and causing the death of several animals.
