The population of the State of Amazonas, according to the population count carried out in 2010 by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), has 3,483,985 inhabitants, this unit of the federation is the second most populous in the Region North.
The state capital is Manaus, a city that occupies the seventh place in the ranking of the highest Brazilian GDP (Gross Domestic Product), but this data is restricted only to the city, in addition to Furthermore, the capital is the largest city in the entire North Region, with a population of 1,802,014 inhabitants, however, the growth is occurring in a disorderly and unplanned manner. adequate. Manaus is one of the cities that receive the most immigrants in the country.
The population of Amazonas is composed of whites (24.2%), blacks (3.1%), browns or mestizos (66.9%), indigenous (4.0%) and yellow (0.3%).
Despite having a population of over 3.4 million people, the Amazon territory is sparsely populated, this is evidenced in the demographic density data which corresponds to 2.2 inhabitants per kilometer square.
Of the total population, approximately 79% live in urban centers, the capital, Manaus, is home to more than 50% of the state's inhabitants.
The configuration of the age structure of the State is presented as follows: 43.8% of the population is aged between 0 and 14 years old, 52% correspond to those between 15 and 59 years old and 4.2% of the population are people over 60 years old.
The distribution of the population by sex is relatively similar, with women representing 49.7% and men 50.3% of the population.
The state concentrates the largest indigenous population in the country, located in areas with difficult access.
