Nationality represents the country (nation) in which a person was born or acquired the right to citizenship. The place of birth is directly linked to the city and state in which the person was born.

Nationality can be determined by birth or by applying for naturalization. Remember that the rules for assigning nationality vary from country to country.
For example, under Brazilian law, anyone who was born in Brazilian territory can be considered Brazilian.
Brazilian nationality can also be required by people born in Portuguese-speaking countries after 1 year living in the country or 15 uninterrupted years for people from other countries.
