Vacation: Rest or Study for Entrance Exam?

After an intense year of studies, the well-deserved vacation finally arrives. And these moments of rest are essential for students. But, during this period, who is going to take the entrance exam should leave the study aside?

It is worth remembering that there are two types of entrance exams. The first is the one who will enter the third year of high school and who will take the entrance exam only at the end of the year. On the other hand, there are students who have already completed high school and who are preparing for the selection processes alone or attending courses.

For Diego Viug, pedagogical coordinator of ProEnem, an online teaching platform, during the holidays, the ideal is to combine moments of rest, relaxation and a little study so that, at the beginning of any preparation, students are not too short of rhythm.

“The intention is just to keep in touch with the study. Consider the case of an athlete: even on vacation, he cannot be completely neglected. The recommended activities are reviews of the most basic parts of your favorite subjects, the idea is that it's fun!” recommends Viug.

Marcelo Pavani, director of Anglo Tamandaré Campinas, agrees that it is interesting for young people to study what they like. “The best vacation strategy is to review those stories that he finds it easier. With this, the student is able to see results derived from the use of that time for studying, which maintains the motivation to continue studying”, he explains.

relax is essential

Even dedicating some time to their studies, it is important that the college entrance exams rest to get back to their routine. Various activities can be done, as each relaxes the mind in a way.

“Traveling can be important as the student moves away from the routine of his home and city and changes the scenario of your life, which can more easily lead to tranquility when resuming studies", he advises Pavan

See below for other options for activities to relax on vacation:

  • Meet with friends;

  • Go for a run or other physical activities;

  • Watch a good movie or series you like;

  • Get good sleep;

  • Listen to music;

  • Hiking and hiking in the natural environment;

    Do not stop now... There's more after the advertising ;)

  • Read books I've always wanted to read and that have nothing to do with exams.

Listening to music can be a great way to relax

The director of the Anglo College pays attention to an important issue: the sleep regimen. “Sleeping for long periods, or switching from day to night, can make it more difficult to return to a routine when school starts. Maintaining an adequate sleep regimen (for most people, no more than 8 hours a day) is critical to a good performance,” he says.

special cases

Some students choose to take the entrance exam for courses that are usually very popular, especially at federal universities, such as Medicine, Engineering and Right. As Viug explains, even in these cases it is essential to rest. “For these entrance exams, the year will be quite intense. The difference in the preparation of these candidates will be throughout the year, studying more hours during the day and with more technique”, he analyzes.

Another common case is that of university students who have been trying to enter universities for more than two, three, four years. In this case, Pavani recommends doing an analysis and reviewing the approval project while on vacation.

"You have to ask yourself if this is the path you've decided to take, if the course you're taking is really that of your choice or if there are external factors (family pressure, fear of abandoning a choice you no longer have certainty). This reflection reinforces and increases the student's motivation for another difficult year or helps and encourages the student to seek a new career option”, assesses the director of Anglo.

Finally, there are still cases of university entrance exam students who do not attend colleges or courses and who decided to prepare themselves for the exams. In this situation, the first step, according to Pavani, is to survey the resources they have to study: support teaching materials (books didactic courses or course workbooks), websites and video channels where he intends to watch classes online, lists of exercises he can use, previous tests of college entrance exams.
