Solar storm. Solar Storm Characteristics

Several reactions take place in the Sun's core, a fact that provides for the production of large amounts of energy via nuclear fusion. During this process, protons and electrons are released, which are attracted and accumulated in other magnetic fields.

The large concentration of protons and electrons can trigger a solar storm, characterized by the release, through a large explosion, of these superheated particles. As a result, solar radiation reaches the Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere. The solar magnetic cycle is approximately 22 years.

The consequences of this phenomenon can be disastrous, such as the destruction of artificial satellites, the interference with telephone services, power outages, damage to objects electronics, etc. The solar storm also provides beautiful light spectacles: the aurora borealis and aurora australis.

Do not stop now... There's more after the advertising ;)

According to estimates by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration – American Space Agency), this phenomenon could happen in 2013, as the Sun will enter a cycle of high activity. In 1859, a solar storm damaged the telegraph lines of countries in Europe and the United States of America (USA).
