How many states does the United States have?

The United States is formed by 50 states plus your federal district, the District of Columbia, and some territories incorporated, which are an integral part of the country, and unincorporated, which correspond to possessions of the United States.

Each state is represented both in the United States Congress, the country's legislative body, as well as in the Electoral College established by the Constitution.

Each unit, or state, is divided into counties, whose responsibilities are different for each state, and it is up to the state to organize these subdivisions and delegate responsibilities. In Alaska, these divisions are called districts, and in Louisiana, parishes. Each county has a seat where government representatives are based.
