Ascariasis is the result of helminth infestationlumbricoid ascaris in the body, being most often found in the intestine. Approximately 25% of the world population has these parasites, and such occurrences are typical of regions where basic sanitation is precarious.
This pathogen, popularly known as roundworm, has a cylindrical and elongated body, and can reach up to 40 centimeters in length. Females are larger and more robust than males; and these have a curled tail. Surprisingly, a single host can have up to 600 of these individuals.
THE Contamination for him it is through the ingestion of its eggs, generally found in soil, water, food and hands that had a previous contact with contaminated human feces.
In the small intestine, they release larvae that cross the walls of this organ and go to the blood and lymph vessels; spreading through the body. Reaching the pharynx, these can be released along with coughing or mucus; or, still, being swallowed, reaching the intestine again. There, they reproduce sexually, allowing the release of some of their approximately 200,000 eggs a day, through feces, allowing the contamination of other people.
Due to the spread of larvae, fever, stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, bronchitis, pneumonia, convulsions and physical and mental exhaustion are some of the symptoms who can introduce themselves; depending on the organ that was affected. However, in many cases the verminosis is asymptomatic.
For diagnosis, it is necessary to do fecal exams, where the eggs of this animal can be found. Exist treatment, which is done with the use of drugs and adopting basic hygiene measures.
As for the prevention, drink only treated water, wash fruits and vegetables well before eating them, always wash your hands, do not defecate in inappropriate places, and other teeth are part of this list.
