Use of "Everybody" and "Nobody"

The words todo Mundo (everybody is nobody (no one) are followed by the verb in its singular form. Therefore, we say: "Todo Mundo is wonderful!”, instead of saying: "Todo Mundo are wonderfult!”.See some examples:

♦ everybody knows that I love you.
Everyone knows I love you.

♦ everybody wants to be happy.
Everyone wants to be happy.

♦ nobody was at home when I arrived there.
No one was home when I got there.

♦ nobody knows Jack better than me.
Nobody knows Jack better than I do.

When we have to use the possessive pronoun with these expressions, we should remember that its use is different from Portuguese. Because of that we have to be careful with the use of these words. / When we need to use the possessive pronoun with these expressions, we must remember that its usage differs from English. Therefore, we must be careful with the use of these words.

Look at the examples: / See the examples:

Everybody knows what is difficult for them. / Everyone knows what's hard for them/them. In Portuguese, we do not use this structure. Translated into the structure of the Portuguese language, it would look like this: Everyone knows what is difficult for them.

Everybody is waiting for their happiness. / Everyone is waiting for their happiness. In Portuguese, we say: Everyone is waiting for your happiness.

Nodody is happy with their new classmate. / No one is happy with their new classmate. We can translate into Portuguese as: Nobody is happy with their new classmate.

When we will use the possessive pronoun with everybody and nobody we have to remember that the pronoun used in this case is in the plural, different from the verb form. / When we are going to use the possessive pronouns with the words “everybody” and “nobody”, we have to remember that the pronoun used in this case is in the plural, unlike the verb form, which is always in the singular.
