Also called dysphemia, The stutter it is a disorder characterized by interruptions in verbal fluency. These interruptions are accompanied by repetitions or prolongations, audible or not, of syllables and sounds. These speech alterations are not controlled and may be accompanied by fears, insecurity, irritation, excitement, etc.

Two types of stuttering are known, the stutter acquired and the development stutter.

THE stutter acquired, also called neurogenic stutter, it is rare and can occur after a stroke, head trauma, etc., that is, cases in which the brain has suffered some damage.

already the development stutter it is considered a common disorder that most often appears between two and five years of age. This type of stuttering has no known cause. Recent studies have identified mutations in three related genes called GNPTAB, GNPTG and NAGPA that explain approximately 10% of cases of persistent stuttering in families. Researchers are still not sure how these genes might influence stuttering, but some biochemical studies on the enzymes encoded by these genes point out that mutations lead to a decrease in enzyme function, and this decrease is sufficient to cause some type of damage to nerve cells in the brain. Thus, we can conclude that stuttering is not only an emotional and social disorder, but also a biological disorder.

The treatment of stuttering is done with speech therapists and psychologists, professionals who have technical and specific procedures to treat this disorder, which can be done in any age. Some experts believe that there is no treatment to cure stuttering, claiming that treatments available promote a significant reduction in stuttering, and some trace may remain, even if Discreet.
