Meaning of Production (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Production is a feminine noun that refers to any type of activity or process that gives rise to a particular service, object or product.

The term has its origin in Latin product, which means “make appear” and is related to the action of producing, procreating, creating, originating, manufacturing. When the term refers to applying to something, it means making a profit.

The production process involves a series of steps and factors that, combined, satisfy the needs of society as the demand for goods and services occurs. Factors such as the land, which provides natural resources, the human effort dedicated to creating a particular product or service and capital, which represents the set of goods that serve both to increase the product's production process and for its consumption.

The activities that are directly linked to the production process are located in the branches of industry, commerce, agriculture and transport.

Production is also related to the difference between the volume of what is produced in relation to the goods consumed, as it is what determines the added value of these resources, indicating whether or not there will be profit for the organization commercial.

Production Modes

For the economy, modes of production are the forms of socioeconomic organization associated with a certain stage of the process of origin of goods and services. They are constituted by the object with which one works and by the means of work identified for production. There are seven main modes of production:

Primitive production mode

This is what is meant by an economic and social formation based on work and collective ownership of the means of production. It is the oldest mode of production and the one that values ​​the land in the first place.

Slave production mode

In slave society, the means of production and slaves were the property of the landlord. The slave was considered an instrument, a tool in the process of taking care of the land. In this way, the relationships were based on the principle of dominance and subjection.

Asian production mode

It was a predominant mode of production in countries like Egypt, China, India and also in Africa in the last century and consisted of the production of slaves and peasants, who were forced to hand over everything they produced to the State.

feudal production mode

Feudal society was constituted by the relationship of feudal lords and their servants. Serfs were not slaves, but served their masters in exchange for food and housing.

socialist mode of production

The economic basis of socialism is the social ownership of the means of production, that is, they are collective and there are no private companies. The purpose of socialism is the complete satisfaction of the material and cultural needs of the population. In it there is no separation in the relationship between boss and employee.

capitalist mode of production

The main characteristic of the capitalist mode of production is the wage-earning relations of production. The relationships are based on the private ownership of the means of production by the bourgeoisie and on wage labor.

Text Production

The production can also be linked to the action of exposing ideas in an argumentative way, through words. This is called text production or text production, which is an important requirement for job selection processes or for admission to higher education.

Textual production is divided into three main types:

  • Dissertation: argumentative and opinionated text. Example: articles, reviews, essays, monographs, among others.
  • Narration: text that narrates facts, events or actions of characters in a given time and space. Example: chronicles, novels, novels, legends, among others.
  • Description: text that describes objects, people, animals, places or events. Example: diaries, reports, biographies, resumes, among others.

Industrial production

It is the activity carried out with the objective of transforming raw material through human efforts, together with machines and energy, into products that can be sold.

This is an activity that emerged during the first phase of the Industrial Revolution, at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.

Audiovisual production

It is a segment that is directly linked to the area of ​​artistic, cultural and multimedia production, where the planning and execution of the circulation of communication strategies in the audiovisual medium takes place. His background is linked to the ability to develop practices in production, script, direction, image capture and treatment, editing, post-production and animation.
