Subspeciespanthera tigris balica
The Bali tiger was a tiger subspecies endemic to Bali Island, Indonesia, and living in the coastal area of the western region of Indonesia.
Much like the java tiger (Panthera tigris probe), another extinct species, had a small size. At approximately 1.70 m in length, and weighing a maximum of 100 kg, they were the smallest subspecies of tigers, weighing approximately half the weight of a Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica).
It became extinct in the thirties due to the loss of habitats for intensive agriculture and hunting. The last specimen, an adult female, is believed to have been killed in September 1937 by a hunter in Sumbar Kima, west of Bali.
As there were no Bali tigers kept in captivity, this event definitely extinguished this specimen: one of the three subspecies that disappeared in the last seventy years.
It is worth noting that many other tiger subspecies are critically endangered, for the same reasons mentioned here.
