Quantitative knowledge of the population is needed anywhere, as planning will be carried out based on this data. The study of a country's population is of fundamental importance in the development of public policies (health, education, infrastructure, etc.).
In Brazil, the instrument for collecting demographic data is the census or census. The body responsible for counting the population is the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), which conducts the survey through household interviews. The first demographic census in Brazil was carried out in 1872, when the population totaled 9,930,478 inhabitants.
Brazilian Population Increase
According to data from the 2010 Demographic Census, carried out by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Brazil has 190,755,799 inhabitants. This number makes the country the fifth most populous nation on the planet, just behind China, India, the United States and Indonesia, respectively.
In the last 50 years, the country has experienced a large population increase, with about 130 million people being added to its territory. In the short interval from 1991 to 2005, the Brazilian population grew close to 38 million individuals. In 2050, the Brazilian population will be approximately 260 million people, according to estimates made by the IBGE, that is, a population increase of almost 70 million inhabitants in relation to the 190,755,799 registered in 2010.
Despite being the fifth most populous country, Brazil is among the least populated countries on the planet, with low population density. This data is obtained by dividing the total population of a given place by its territorial extension. There are approximately 22.4 inhabitants per km² in Brazil, far from the 881.3 inhabitants per km² in Bangladesh.
